Assignment Directions for ALL STUDENTS:
Watch the two videos and complete the video questions (if you don't have the video questions in your assignment packet, copy them onto your own paper.)

Video #1: Photographing Action (by Karl Taylor)

Questions for video 1 (copy onto your own paper and answer if they are not on your handout):
 1. Why do you think Mr. Taylor (the speaker in the video) is wearing a brightly-colored vest?
2. When Taylor talks about panning, what shutter speed does he say he is going to use?
3. According to Taylor, panning gives a “great sense of __________________________________ to your image.”
4. Watch closely starting at about 2:30 in the video—see how Taylor turns and follows the bikers as they go around the corner? He is demonstrating the technique of __________________________________ that he just discussed.
5. Why do you think Taylor kneels down to take some of the pictures?
6. At that speed, Taylor says that the _________________________ is quite ______________________________ because _________________________ of light is coming through.

Video #2: Canon EOS - Sports Photography Tutorial with Craig Golding

Questions for video 2 (copy onto your own paper and answer if they are not on your handout):
1. When did Mr. Golding start taking pictures?
2. What does Golding say is the best bit of advice that he can give for shooting action, and why?
3. For shooting outdoors, what times of day does Golding say are best, and why?
4. Why does he not like to shoot in the middle of the day when subjects are front-lit? How does he try to shoot in the middle of the day?
5. What does Golding say is often the difference between a great picture and a picture that could have been great?
6. Why does he like to shoot car racing using the panning technique? What does he say happens if he shoots it without panning?
7. Why does Golding like shorter lenses (shooting more zoomed in/close up)?
8. What does Golding say is the difference between good photographers and great photographers?
9. What are three ways that Golding suggests to see things that aren’t apparent to other people?
